Not sure if “book fair” is a season, but maybe it has to do with the beginning of the school year, the scent of crisp air and the nostalgia of the Scholastic fliers being delivered to your classroom. My family didn’t have much money growing up, and I was often left with only enough to buy an eraser and a bookmark. Maybe that’s why I hoard books as an adult, because I didn’t have the privivledge of accumulating the collection I desired as a kid.
Either way, I enjoy standing behind my table at a book fair, talking to people about which of my “paper babies” is my favorite and giving the fastest, most effective elevator pitch about them to see if I can get them adopted into a loving home.
And maybe I’ll look into getting a bowl of neon, animal-shaped erasers for customers to have for free. You know, for nostalgia.
